Key train of thoughts shared by our panel - Q1.Why do we need to build a sustainable future? 1.In the name of development we must make the right decisions when it comes to using natural resource's so that we are do not fall short in future, the decision that we make may be good or bad based on the values in our society and we should ask our selves what does actually sustainable development mean to us and what kind of decision we would like to take. 2.The present generation that our children should be educated of what is the requirement of the present and what will be needed to for the future so that we don't fall short when of our natural resources. 3.We should understand at what cost are we developing what are the benefits the risks. Each of us must understand that we have a moral obligation to each other, the future generation and the other species on the planet when it comes to the use of natural resources Q2.How can we develop a sustainable future without compromising on the present needs? 1.As a country we should be stressing too much on one occupation like fishing, need to widen our horizons to other avenues so that there is balance - now with the development and use of technology this could be enabled. 2. Sustainability is not about how much harm are we doing but how much good we are doing to the society based on our values and morals - meaning if I am using a natural resource how much I can contribute back so that our future generation may also enjoy them and much more. 3.When we use a natural resource we should also find out means how we can increase the productivity of that resource so we do not fall short for our future generation - The need of technology and innovation plays a important role. Also we should understand what is the strength in terms of natural and how we can increase the productivity and efficiency for the future. Q3.What can be done to align our children and citizens to align with the need to develop a sustainable future? 1.The education system should expose our children to the realistic issues of the society and the world so that they understand if there is an issue in one country how it is impacting others - as this is a global phenomenon. The teachers should be trained on how they can relate their subjects to real world aspects when teaching the children.The concept of Design thinking should be included in the in schools - this concept enables understanding problems, taking decisions and enhancing skills among the children. 2.Chidren should be educated more in local concepts - on the local resources, morals, values. 3.Chilren must be given ownership gives them a sense responsibility, which interns enables their a sense of belonging.
