“Transforming inmates physically, mentally and spiritually for a better future. Realization of mistakes and repentance leads to a life of many positive possibilities”
With our #Eklakshya team we visited Central Prison Dharwad to study how a Jail can be much more than a place where the inmates are punished for their wrongdoings. At Dharwad #SP #Anita_Rai is making sure that she’s getting the inmates back into shape physically, mentally and spiritually. Under her able leadership more than 600 male prisoners and 25 female prisoners are being trained in various skills. They also create beautiful products, grow their own vegetables, cook in a hygienic kitchen, read in their libraries and complete their education, write, meditate, exercise and play various sports. Anita ma’am very passionately explained how these inmates are being rehabilitated. She took us around the well maintained premises and helped us understand about the jail’s rich history and the initiatives presently being implemented out there. She has also carefully and lovingly preserved and exhibited prized possessions which have many interesting stories connected to them. She narrated beautifully and took us on a journey where we understood the history behind everything displayed out there including the staircase, roof, cupboards, antique trunks etc. She is also planning on increasing the green cover and intends to develop a barren piece of land into a garden.
We were all pleasantly surprised with the way the Central Prison is being run with the motto of engaging a person creatively and intellectually so that the transformation in behaviour and thoughts occur. Thanks to Anita ma’am, a very dynamic positive lady who’s making sure that they explore the goodness and talent that lies within themselves to create bright futures for themselves away from the world of crime! Kudos to her extraordinary vision and we look forward to seeing many inmates being rehabilitated.
An empty mind is a devil’s workshop. For sure there are no empty minds out here but only creatively and positively engaged minds. Transformation begins from within!
