Yesterday we celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New year. The Sinhala and Tamil New Year, also known as “Aluth Avurudda,” is one of the most important traditional festivals in Sri Lanka. It is celebrated by both the Sinhalese and Tamil communities, usually in April, to mark the end of the old year and the beginning of the new one.For the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, we did many nice things. We cleaned our house and helped make sweet foods like kavum and kokis. We wore new clothes and waited for the special time to do the Avurudu things. We boiled milk and shared sweets with our family and neighbors. Then, we played fun games. We laughed, ate good food, and had a lot of fun. It was a very happy New Year!
