On behalf of Abhi:
Jack my friend was the one who walked the path we are meant to – selfless, always helping and full of love. Back then, He helped me by showing almost all the homes available in naperville over a period of two years , only to help me realize the vision in my mind of my dream home . Then he introduced me to the architect who helped me to build this vision. Over the years, each time I called, he was always busy helping those in need. There are a lot of people who teach us what not to do or preach about what to do .. but Jack , he is the one who showed me what to do in my life , with the life he lived ..
Thank you Jack.
Respect.
Abhi

Dear Girish’s family and friends. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and all at home. The fire place has been working over time. Listening to my kids discussing how they wrote a letter to Santa when younger, my thoughts wonder to grasp the year gone by. The older one has already started college in pursuit of engineering and movie making. The younger one is pursuing his liking of origami, architecture and archeology in high school. The fact that both of them have started to use technology for bogging their ideas and photography makes me proud. And I almost forgot, they have started setting a yearly calendar reminder on their phone for Dec 31 of each year with their wishes, goals and priorities for the upcoming year. So the calendar entry set in 2018 will pop up on Dec 31 2019 as a reminder, so on so forth each year. I guess the celebration of writing a letter with a wish list grooms a young mind to know one’s wants, to be thankful for what one has and to give one’s best. As I reflect on the ups n’ downs, wins n’ losses, smiles n’ tears of this year, only… Read more »
POSTED ON BEHALF OF NIRANJAN:
Why we exchange leaves (Banni) as Gold on Dasara:
Celebrate Equality – We denote Banni as Gold and exchange it with elders/children/rich/poor. On this day we all wish each other being equal. Irrespective of the social status, all of us have Gold and we are all at same level. So all of shall live in harmony.
Celebrate Nature – This is the core of Hinduism. Hindus worship with respect everything that helps them in their day-to-day life. We do Pooja to a car/bike because they HELP us take us from one point to another SAFELY. You pick up anything that helps us in our daily life, we worship it some time.
Leaves are the important part of our life. Leaves generates food to the tree and trees provide food and shelter and the chain goes on. On this day we say leaves are like gold and we respect them for sustaining LIFE on earth. Even though Banni tree does not provide fruits, we worship it because we consider it as equal to any other fruit bearing tree.

Dear Girish. As we celebrated Dasara in Chicago, some of the questions that my kids asked prompted me to think about your family. So thought I pen a letter to share the discussion with a hope it may shed a new perspective; as kids now a days seek a logical and scientific answer to every festival or ritual. The little one asked me: “Why do we say “Take gold and be like gold or Bangara tagondu bangara hang irri or Sona ghya Sonya sarka rhava …” as we exchange these plant leaves?” As I reflected on 40+ years of celebrating this festival and knowing as little as I know about Ramayan, I said “We celebrate the good winning over bad. Or in Star Wars terminology “The force defeating the dark side\”. Today is a celebration of Rama (the king ) defeating Ravana (the deamon) to rescue Sita ( the queen) with the help of Lakshmana (brother) and Hanuman (the friend). The concept and science behind the symbolic gesture of exchanging leaves is to cultivate a practice of “Giving the best you have and encouraging the best in oneself and others” so one may succeed in their pursuits.” “Oh I see.… Read more »
