Rain forests Rain forests are forest ecosystems with high rainfall, enclosed canopy and high species diversity. The most prevalent tropical rain forests are those found throughout the world, including temperate climates such as Canada, the United States, and the former Soviet Union. Most of the world’s tropical rain forests occur in the Amazon Basin of South America. It is the second and third largest tropical rain forest in the Congo Basin and Southeast Asia, respectively. Rain forests are found in some Caribbean islands, in the islands of Central America, India, the South Pacific, in Madagascar, outside the Congo Basin in West and East Africa, in Central America and Mexico, and in some parts of South America.
