The oldest trees.
In times like today when deforestation is continuing across the world it would be difficult to believe that we still have trees which are thousands of years old. However it is true that the bristle cone pines found in the mountains of California are over 4,000 years old. Till the end of the nineteenth century, scientists believed that the Giant Sequoias were the oldest trees till they discovered the bristle cones. A bristle cone tree cut down in 1,969 was find to be more than 4,800 years old. Presently the oldest living tree is about 4,600 years old. Bristle cone trees grow in very adverse conditions and at high altitudes and on barren terrain. They have strangely twisted and stunted shapes and few leaves at the top.So we can think the bristle cones tree is oldest tree among the trees.
The role of insects.
flowering plants reproduce by transferring pollen through a process called pollination. This process requires the transfer of pollen from the anther of one flowering plant to the stigma of another flowering plant. Since plants are immobile, they need to relay upon others so that this transfer can be carried out. Flowers attract insects of all kinds including bees and butterflies through their scents, nectar and bright colors. When the insects come to feed upon the nectar, grains of pollen get attached to their legs and are carried away by the insect. When these insects visit another flower, they shed some of the pollen thus causing pollination. This is called cross pollination and it helps in producing healthy plants. Most plants which carry out pollination with the help of insects do not pollinate themselves, since they have both anthers and stigmas. Thus the role of insects is very important for the reproduction of most species of flowering plants
In this week also I had added kitchen waste like coconut powder, tea powder, onion peels, banana peels etc to the WM bin and we mixed it well. In next week my plan is to add kitchen waste to the WM bin and mix them well.
In this week also I had added kitchen waste to the bin.
In this week also I had watered the plants.
