SIMPLE INNOVATION DESIGN HUB
(SIDH) is focused on applying art, ideas, music and math to design sustainable solutions.
Experience.
SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION DESIGN IS THE KEY.
I value great design that balances the priorities, opens up new horizons and creates a sustainable solution.
01. Engineering.
The synergy between space, function and purpose will drive a design that grows with time.
02. Origami.
Balancing the structure, material and space in a design is always a challenge.
03. Sustainability.
What good is a design if it does not compliment the source of it’s existence.
03. Math, Gaming and Poems.
Designing with the heart and the mind every step is the key; math and poetry go hand in hand in the DNA of a sustainable design.
Is this the way to walk in a park/community/public during lockdown or post lockdown or can this be a new norm.
CAM TOY – ENGINEERING As a final project for my Introduction to Engineering class for my high school freshman year, our class had to create a cam toy. This type of toy displays a repeating, moving pattern of objects through twisting an axle, that goes through an open box, which has “wheels” with various shapes. These “wheels” allow the same number of sticks, which go through the top of the box, to be risen and dropped at different times and at different speeds. For our project, we could create any type of design that we wanted as long as it fit the criteria of how the motion had to be consistent and repetitive as well as other minor details. Through this, and with Avengers: Endgame coming out last month, I decided to create something based on Thor’s new weapon, Stormbreaker, and Captain America’s shield. At first, I started with this sketch of the idea: After getting the general idea on what my creation would be, I began to work on the 3D models of the project on Autodesk Inventor. These were the final designs of Stormbreaker and Captain America’s shield along with the cams (the “wheels”): In the design, I created a small hole in… Read more »
VALENTINE’S DAY – LOVE
The light advanced from the sky,
Blinding us with a fleet of doves.
Though we prefer to shy
Away from that love.
Running from the rejoicing rewards,
Only to be met by joyous smiles.
We tried to escape that horde
That gave everyone new trials.
This was what we were years ago,
Until we learned that those doves,
Although scared us so,
Were our fleeting hearts of love.
Now, we look upon that sky.
Now, we look upon each other.
We look as if the end is never nigh,
As that blinding light
Engulfs us all.
THE ODYSSEY; A CREATIVE WRITE Odysseus thus stated: “I voyaged on in my fate to end up in Calypso’s island. As I paddled on the plank of my fallen ship, I came across yet another mass of land. Arriving on the shore, my eyes rested asleep. I was awoken by the grace of the gods. The aroma of peace suffocated the air, Only to be overwhelmed by the divine music of a flute. Listening to the sweet harmony, I trotted toward where I thought the source resided. Through the beautiful meadows, Of colored leaves and wildflowers, I blundered onward until I saw something most peculiar. A man, no, a man filled with light. Never in my sight could I see a feature of him, However, he sat upon a stone, performing a song on a carved reed. There, he sat, playing and playing, Until I approached into his view. Immediately, he stopped, and the sky grew dark, the meadows becoming black with evil. The light faded from existence, only to be filled with violet hues. My fear was unimaginable, but I stood, stood where I was, For nothing could faze me through Zeus’ wrath. I believed, this monster, no matter… Read more »
WATER WRINKLING HANDS In my Honors Biology class, I learned about the process of osmosis, which is the action where water with a higher concentration of molecules moves to a lower one across a membrane. This osmosis is usually used in your cells to get nutrients and get rid of unneeded molecules. However, there was a question I had for many years based on the wrinkling of your hands when they’re in water for too long. I looked it up on Google when I first noticed it happening to me in my shower. What I found was that your hands wrinkle because of a nervous system reaction. Then, your blood vessels constrict. And even further was the theory that it helps you grab onto things better in water. However, as I looked into this several years later (now), I realized I shouldn’t always believe what someone says. The key to learning something is by questioning it. That was the aspect of learning that I hadn’t understood until now. So, from the new knowledge of osmosis, I believe that the reason our hands wrinkle is because of a higher concentration of molecules existing on the outside of our skin cells. This… Read more »
PERSPECTIVE – ENGINEERING Already into a quarter of my 9th grade year, I have learned more than I had expected to. One of the most interesting subjects I’m taking is Intro to Engineering & Design. In this time as a freshman, I learned different sketching methods; they were isometric, oblique, multi-view, and perspective sketches. Perspective drawing is the idea that I found the most profound. In this style of art, you create points to which all your lines will be drawn to. In this way, the perspective, of let’s say looking at a block, will be produced on paper. After being taught of this technique, I was inspired to draw my house. However, first I had to make a proportional sketch to get the idea of the drawing. This was expressed through an isometric: From this, I had created a complex object which I would have never imagined to have been able to make. The next day I presented it to my teacher who thought it was nice. but he challenged me to create a perspective drawing of it. And I made this: There are 3 points that all the lines converge to. Vertical lines go to the bottom point.… Read more »
COMPUTER 3D DESIGN
As a 9th grade student, I’m aspiring to become an Archaeologist and Architect; however, I’m taking an engineering class that encourages aspects of design. In my class, we were learning the basics of 3D modeling on a computer. This style of design is a more complicated and diverse way of the old fashioned, “pen and paper” method. Hands on sketching provides the feel for the work, whereas computer modeling gives more opportunities to create something. The small glimpse of this way of creating an idea compared to drawing a regular cube gave me, at the least, a little more knowledge on the subject of creation.
Going into these next 4 years of developing my interests and values, I believe that this approach to learning design will establish the foundation for Architecture: the key aspect of Archaeology.
CAESAR – A TED ED TALK I met a profound, homeless man on my birthday during the summer… His name, Caesar. I was in Philly at the time, and my family and I were in Starbucks when I spotted him. My mom had been carrying a few dollars of mine, but I felt the need to give my money to him… You probably presume that we trotted off and celebrated my birthday. But no, the man, with his nickname being Caesar and his real name being Derrick, did not just thank us, he taught me lessons that were remarkable. He had a special heart, one that takes years to obtain. This mindset, as I perceive it now, is the pursuance of life. Privileged people have a hard era developing this, but Caesar had that inspiration and devotion from his losses. I learned many ideas from Caesar, so I will bet that you will learn a lesson from him as well. The first teaching he educated me on was that no religion is bad. It’s not the definition of what makes you, but what you believe in. All of us are different in our perspectives, but it’s a choice if we… Read more »
IF YOU WERE TO TELL ME ONE CHORE TO DO FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE? This President Day weekend, I had the time to look over what I’d done for the past couple months in which I never really had the opportunity to have some thoughts to myself. School for me was a little vigorous and only now I feel that I had the sufficient time to think about where I’m heading and the direction I feel that suites me best. So, I thought, although I’m thinking about these things, I still need some insight on what to do… Why not ask my parents? However, I did not see the need to go into a +15 minute conversation about this. If I needed the most important things that my parents had to offer, then one simple question will make sure that they’ll tell me what I need to do for the rest of my life. My question was, if you were to tell me one chore to do for the rest of my life, what would it be? Immediately, people might think, “ha, chore, okay, you should wash my car for the rest of your… Read more »
