Topic: Importance of Well-being
Overview:
This session was conducted by Jayashree from the MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation.
The session emphasized the importance of maintaining overall well-being through healthy daily habits, continuous learning, and working on routine tasks and avoiding to be lazy. Students learned how good physical and mental health enhances concentration, improves learning, increases productivity, and contributes to a happier and more fulfilling life.
The session also included simple physical exercises and meditation techniques that students can practice every day to improve their focus, reduce stress, and support their overall health and well-being.

Topic: Good Touch and Bad Touch

Overview –
This session was conducted by Dr Deepti Joshi, who is currently working as a Pediatric Ophthalmologist at M M Joshi Eye Institute, Hubli, Karnataka. In addition, she is professionally taking care of Children’s eyes, and she is passionately involved in various activities about safeguarding children against child physical & mental abuse. She was a pioneer in conducting an activity to educate 2300 teachers at a single time in a single place in the year 2020, which was enrolled in the Limca Book of World Records. 

During this session, she explained to the children/inmates that the following key points were discussed –

  1. Understanding Good Touch and Bad Touch, and its causes.
  2. Measures to protect/safeguard themselves against Bad Touch/sexual abuse.
  3. How can Bad Touch/sexual abuse occur over social media platforms/digitally, and what can they do to protect themselves.

Project Updates (5:27 – 28:08): The children present status reports on two primary projects:Gardening Project: Led by Sulakshana, Nishadi, and Sakana. They discuss activities like planting chili and tomato plants, using natural manure, and addressing challenges like seedling care during intense sunlight (5:27-19:20).Waste Management Project: Led by Nihara and her team, they describe collecting items like onion and garlic peels, coconut powder, and tea powder for composting (25:33-28:08).Project Management Training (19:20 – 24:22): Abby and Jared explain that these updates are training for real-world professional skills. They emphasize the importance of the three-part reporting structure: Accomplishments, Next Steps, and Challenges/Solutions.Communication Importance (33:08 – 36:56): The mentors highlight that besides providing updates, it is crucial for students to start asking insightful questions, which is a key component of effective communication and active engagement.

Takeaways for the Students:

Always prepare details like quantities, specific dates, and photographic evidence for reports.Be consistent with project documentation to help mentors track progress effectively.Practice concise communication, as it is a vital skill for success in school, work, and personal life.
