——————————————————————- “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead
Here we are, amazing passionate citizens driving a revolution in our Twin cities! Come, become a part of it and experience the joy and satisfaction!
Thank you Times Of India and Basavaraj Kattimani for the wonderful article that will inspire many and spread awareness on Being the Change we Want to see!
#Saving_DoddaNayakanaKoppa_Lake, #Dharwad! ——————————————————————– Shockingly the once irrigation tank had become a sewage tank, garbage dumping yard, a health hazard and an eyesore for the residents. Very few including some of the officials were even aware of the fact that a lake existed there! Mr. Sunil Rai, a man on a mission to save Waterbodies seeing it’s pathetic condition had suggested to me several times that we should do something about our lake. Therefore we surveyed, studied and decided to develop it through his NGO Bharath Water Foundation. Subsequently i had several meetings with the concerned authorities and had submitted proposals to HDMC’s Commissioner, Zone 1 Assistant Commissioner and HDUDA’s Commissioner. Inspired by Mr. Sunil Rai’s passion to conserve it we had made plans to form a DNK Lake Committee and develop it scientifically with a team of experts as a Citizen’s Initiative. We still intend to take this up and both HDMC & HDUDA are also interested in this collaboration. Thankfully as promised HDUDA has taken up the work of cleaning, desilting the lake and bund strengthening. The District In charge Minister Mr. Vinay Kulkarni was instrumental in including this lake in the list of lakes that the twin cities intend to… Read more »
Times of India Panel discussion on Role of Citizens in Democracy! #Active_Citizen_Partnership #Civic_Leadership #Collaboration ——————————————————————— An excellent Times of India initiative that brings the focus back on the Citizens and empowers them to become Agents of Change! As a part of this it was enriching to discuss with Team TOI and other esteemed panelists who have been doing a commendable job in increasing citizen participation in Democracy. #Active_Citizen_Partnership #Civic_Leadership I am a firm believer and promoter of collaboration between citizens, officials and elected representatives for Sustainable Development. Collaboration between Smart Citizens who are aware of and exercise their rights and carry out their responsibilities can help build a Smart City. Citizens play a key role and have to realize the Power that they have to become agents of change and also the power of citizens movements Active citizen partnership is a combination of knowledge, attitude, skills and actions that aim to contribute to building and maintaining a democratic society It can be as small as a campaign to clean up your street or as big as educating young people about democratic values, skills and participation and also partnering up to bring reforms in policies. Active citizenship helps us build healthy… Read more »

Thank you Hubballi Times and Vijayvani for highlighting the issue. Kiran Uppar and Sachin Hoskatti did an excellent job of protecting the walls that were laboriously painted by 100s of citizens including the Commissioner.
We should not tolerate such acts and irrespective of who’s done it should stand united against it. There are many more walls that need to be cleaned. So let our mission continue. Thank you to those who realised their mistake and cleaned it up themselves!
Let us together keep our Dharwad Hubballi Clean Green and Beautiful!

Submitted memorandum for Strict enforcement of Rules to Keep our City Beautiful & Safe from defacement/disfigurement. ————————————————————— We the citizen ambassadors of Dharwad Hubballi submitted memorandums to our District Incharge Minister Mr. Vinay Kulkarni, DC Mr. S.B. Bommanahalli, HDMC Commissioner Mr. Siddalingayya Hiremath and HDMC Zone 1 Assistant Commissioner Mr. Vijay Samrat. We had meaningful discussions and have been assured of appropriate and timely action against the offenders. We have appealed for the following: 1. Strict enforcement of The Karnataka Open Places ( Prevention of Disfigurement ) Act, 1981. 2. Strict action against the offenders who have defaced the walls at KCD road, Dharwad. We the members of Hubballi Dharwad Action Force ( HDAF )which is a citizen’s forum focusing on keeping our city clean, green and beautiful would like to appeal to the district administration to take appropriate strict action against the offenders who have defaced the walls at KCD Road. We have been beautifying and maintaining many areas in the twin cities with 1000s of Citizens and around 8 months back with permission and collaboration from HDMC and many other organizations had cleaned and painted these walls with more than 200 citizens and artists.
