Overview:
A session on Modal Verbs was conducted by Ms Yasmeen M., M.A., M.Ed., Assistant Teacher at Government High School, Shri R. Bommai, Hubli
During the session today, the following topics were covered with the children to help them improve their English communication skills:

  • Use of the present tense in day-to-day conversation. 
  • Use of am, is, are, was and were inthe formation of sentences.

Assignment –

  • Translation of Kannada sentences into English 
  • Reflections of the past session. 
  • Storytelling.
  • Complete the assignment shared today in the WhatsApp group.

Jayashree from MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation. During this session, he covered the below – Importance of education and how it will help them in their holistic growth. He also emphasised that every child must complete their education, at least up to the degree level, so that they may have a stable future. It was also mentioned to them that they should avoid shortcuts, laziness, or choosing the easy path, especially in education and career pursuits, as true success comes from consistent effort and commitment and what they receive for free that will support you in your health, education, and career pursuits, be it from your parents, government etc to be considered them as an opportunity and make the best use of them to grow holistically, and please do not waste them. Topic: Crochet Training (Induction session)

This session was conducted by the interns from the KLE BVB Department of Fashion & Apparel Design. It was an introductory session where the interns explained to the inmates/students what they would be training them on as part of the syllabus.

They also discussed the expectations, objectives, and the next steps for the upcoming sessions.

Topic – Effective Learning Methods

During the session, it was emphasised to the children that they must pay attention and keep practising what they have learnt, as concentration and continuous practice will help them understand better and improve their skills.

Discipline – Be on time, respect your and others’ time, and stay organised. This helps you learn better.

Concentration – Pay full attention while learning. Listening and observing make concepts easier to understand.

Ask Questions – Never hesitate to clarify doubts. Asking questions helps avoid confusion later.
Take Notes – Write down key points and your own short summaries. Good notes help you remember and revise easily.

Practise – Review your notes often, apply what you learn, and keep practising until you are confident.

Assignment – Picture Reading

Two pictures will be shared with the children by Monday. In the next class, they will need to write about each character/thing in English, using proper grammar and complete sentences.

Topic – First Aid Basics That May Help Us in Our Day-to-Day Life

Overview –

This session was conducted by Dr Umesh Hallikeri, MBBS, MD, Consultant Oncopathologist at The Karnataka Cancer Therapy and Research Institute, Navanagar, Hubballi, and Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Dharwad.
During today’s session, the children/inmates/working staff learnt the basic First Aid techniques and how these skills can help them support themselves and others in emergencies. It was also explained how First Aid is an important part of both personal skills and people skills.

They were further trained in the CPR technique using a CPR mannequin, allowing them to observe and understand the correct method of providing life-saving assistance when needed.

To build and strengthen concentration, the following practices were suggested – Pay attention during daily activities – Whether eating, playing, studying, or doing any task, focus on what you are doing. This helps train the mind to stay present.Observe your thoughts – Becoming aware of what we are thinking helps us understand whether our mind is focused. This awareness guides us to bring our attention back to the task at hand.Breathing technique – When you find it difficult to concentrate, gently count your breaths for 15–20 seconds without changing your natural breathing pattern. This calms the mind and improves focus.Daily prayer – At night: Thank God for what you have and for the tasks you were able to do with concentration.
